Bharti hopes to seal Zain Telecom deal by Mar 25

India’s largest mobile services operator Bharti Airtel hopes to conclude the deal to buy Zain’s African assets by March 25 and does not see funding as an issue, its chief said in a newspaper interview on Wednesday.

Bharti Airtel Keen on Bangladesh, South Asian Markets

Bharti Airtel Ltd acing intensifying competition and a price war at home is looking to other markets in South Asia to enliven its bottomline.

First on the list is Bangladesh: A media report Wednesday said Bharti Airtel is looking to buy a 70% stake in Abu Dhabi-based Warid Telecom’s Bangladesh unit.

India’s biggest mobile-phone operator by subscribers declined to comment on any Warid deal, but a senior executive at Bharti Airtel’s parent confirmed a move to expand into the region.

Bharti Retail to up number of outlets to 200

Bharti Retail said on Friday it will expand the number of its retail stores to 200 from 70 at present by end 2010.

Bharti Enterprises vice chairman and managing director Rajan Mittal said most of these will be Easyday stores.

Talking on the sidelines of national executive meeting organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry on Friday, Mittal, however, refrained from commenting on investment numbers till December 2011 when it completes three years of operations with a turnover of Rs 1,000 crore (Rs 10 billion).
