Traffic system overhaul before commonwealth games

For Delhi’s traffic management, the police is going hi-tech route. With the Commonwealth Games in October, Delhi Police is initiating a slew of modernization projects in 2010, with special emphasis on using state-of-the-art gadgets to enhance security and improve traffic management.

Delhi Metro Phase-II to be completed before Commonwealth Games

The second phase of Delhi Metro, covering 125 km and connecting the airport with various points, would be completed before the Commonwealth Games next year, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Chairman E Sreedharan said.

India Double Commonwealth games funding

India on Thursday more than doubled the funds for the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held in New Delhi saying more money was needed for security as well as a successful delivery of the event. There has been widespread criticism of the delay by Indian organizers in creating infrastructure and facilities for the Games scheduled for October 2010.

After doubts were expressed about Delhi’s preparations for the Games, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had assured India would host a “spectacular show.”

The cabinet chaired by Singh approved a revised budget of 16.2 billion rupees (344 million dollars), more than a two-fold increase from the previously sanctioned 7.67 billion rupees (163 million dollars).

Air India to ferry delhi commonwealth

As i got the news that Maharaja Air India has been designated official carrier of the Commonwealth Games 2010 which are still an year away its fair to access whether Air India can really turn itself around. The airline today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Commonwealth Games Organizing Committee to be the official carrier during the Games, which is scheduled to be held between October 3 and 14, 2010. They also plan to run special charter services to accommodate sportsperson and visitors.
